“Babe Ruth Day” From The 3/4 Century Club
St. Petersburg, Florida - March 25, 1933
Eighty years ago today! From the original wire caption: “Babe Ruth is more accustomed to affixing his signature to baseballs than receiving an autographed sphere. But here he’s being presented a ball by Charles W. Eldridge, 102, a member of the Three Quarter Century Club, at St. Petersburg, Fla. The ball is inscribed with the names of members of the club all of whom are over 75 years of age.”
1907 Newark Sailors Team Composite
Future Hall of Famer Eddie Collins was on this team for a total of four games, so he didn’t make it for this photo composite. However, Paul Krichell did make it onto the photo (his name is misspelled “Kritchell”). His playing career was uneventful…but his scouting career for the Yankees was legendary. His eye for talent led to the signings of future Yankees icons Lou Gehrig, Tony Lazzeri, Phil Rizzuto, and Whitey Ford.
