1870 Chicago White Stockings Team This team is actually the first version of what would become the Chicago Cubs (in 1876). Much of this squad joined the new National Association in 1871. Sadly, the Great Chicago Fire of 1871 wiped out the team’s park along with all of its equipment and uniforms. They would return to the NA in 1874 before becoming the Cubs and winning the first National League pennant in 1876.
