Today’s post once again demonstrates the need to pay attention to details when dating and identifying a photo. Even though the picture itself ID’s the team as the new 1916 Cubs, it’s clearly an image of the Federal League’s 1915 Chicago Whales (just look at those jerseys!). The confusion comes into play because the Whales owner, Charles Weeghman, was allowed to purchase a stake in the Cubs when the Federal League folded. As a result, many of the 1915 Whales were absorbed into the what became the 1916 Chicago Cubs of the National League, including player/manager Joe Tinker.
