The Babe’s Last Big Day In The Big Leagues
79 Years Ago Today - Forbes Field, Pittsburgh - May 25, 1935
While not his final game, today marks the 79th anniversary of the day when Babe clouted his final 3 HR’s (712, 713 & 714) in one last heroic effort vs. the Pirates at Forbes Field. In the picture we see The Babe signing baseballs from a box held by Braves coach Hank Gowdy. That’s future Hall of Fame Mgr. Bill McKechnie looking straight into the camera as The Babe appeases the fans. (original unedited b&w photo from the Archives of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette).

1935 Boston Braves Team Composite
Here’s those woeful ‘35 Braves (38-115, ouch!), Babe Ruth’s last team. The only bright spot was Wally Berger who hit a very respectable 34(HR)-130(RBI)-.295(BA).
