Babe Ruth Pays No Tax On His Size
c.1922 Royal Tailors Catalog Ad
“A babe is a tiny human sprite that a woman can hold in her arms. But the Statue of Liberty would have an armful trying to hold Babe Ruth.”

“Orphans Honored, See Ruth Play And Everything”
“It was a day of days for the six orphan kiddies from Passaic, N.J. who flagged an Erie train awhile ago and probably saved hundreds of commuters from death or injury in a track washout. They were invited to the Yankee Stadium, May 20, to see the great Babe Ruth himself play…”
1932 Columbus Red Birds Team
This team was filled with excellent future MLB players like George Selkirk and Paul “Daffy” Dean, a future HOF Mgr. Billy Southworth and a future HOF executive and all-around crazy character, Larry MacPhail (front row, in suit). Leo Durocher once said of Larry, “There is a thin line between genius and insanity, and in Larry’s case, it was so thin you could see him drifting back and forth”
1888 Philadelphia Athletics Team
From the old days of the American Association, this team played from 1882-1890 and shouldn’t be confused with the American League Athletics team that Connie Mack helped to form in 1901. Also note a very young future HOF’er, 24 year old Wilbert ‘Uncle Robbie’ Robinson (to the left of “Athletic 1888”).

“Unworried!” - AP Original Photo vs. Herald Examiner Clipping - January 18, 1932
I thought it would be fun to show how an original press photo was edited back in the day for use in the papers. Who is that mysterious suited fellow in the background? He’s probably the reporter and that case next to him most likely held the camera that’s taking the photo we see here today.
1955 Toronto Maple Leafs Team
Not only was there a Maple Leafs NHL hockey team that we all know of, but there was a Toronto Maple Leafs baseball team as well. They played in the AAA International League until 1967. Gotta love the handlebar moustache on that mascot logo!

Coach Babe Ruth Visits Chicago
Wrigley Field, 1938 (rare fan photo)
Here’s a cool/rare pic that was taken by a fan behind the dugout during Babe’s tenure as the Brooklyn Dodgers 1B coach. As an experiment (if you look closely), I added some animated bits to make it look even more vintage
1955 Omaha Cardinals Team
There’s a few well-known names on this squad, including Mgr. Johnny Keane who had quite an odd major league managing career (winning the World Series in ‘64 with the Cardinals…then becoming the NY Yankees manager in ‘65-66…then dropping dead in ‘67).
