Babe Ruth & The Bethlehem Steel League - October 1918
This remarkable and rare picture features Babe Ruth standing in the back row (3rd from left). Also present in the picture is Shoeless Joe Jackson kneeling in the front row (also 3rd from left). The Bethlehem Steel League was controversial because it provided a way for ballplayers to fulfill their duty of the US regulation to “Work Or Fight!” during World War I. Of course, most of the work the men did was related to playing baseball for the league, which didn’t sit well with many Americans who actually had to serve in the military.
